ENOC wins energy sector category at the 9th Arabia Corporate Social Responsibility Awards

October 27, 2016

Dubai, UAE; October 27, 2016: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) won the energy sector category at the 9th edition of Arabia CSR Awards; one of the region's most rigorous CSR and sustainability awards that underlines the importance of CSR by recognising the most successful and innovative CSR pioneers in the Arab World.

The judging committee evaluated ENOC's submission based on a number of topics including macroeconomic understanding, values and principles, integration into larger strategic approach, data and process reliability and partnerships and collaboration.

"It's an honour for us to participate in an event which recognises our company's commitment to establish a sustainable approach to its business operations; starting from our energy and resource management measures, to our involvement in community outreach programs that positively serve the public and environment. This award is a testament to the Group's commitment towards integrating sustainability and CSR across our business strategy and operations." said H.E Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Chief Executive Officer of ENOC Group.

ENOC has always played an active role in promoting its CSR activities by partnering with various entities to promote awareness around environmental sustainability. This includes the Group's collaboration with Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to launch the Interschool Environmental Public Speaking Competition to promote environmental education among students. ENOC has partnered with the British University in Dubai (BUiD) to launch the first knowledge exchange program on sustainability organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry. ENOC is also a sponsor of the UAE's Night Creatures exhibit at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo at the Dubai Mall; in an effort to promote the UAE's national identity and educate the UAE's future generation about the country's rich and diverse wildlife.

"This year's cycle of the Arabia CSR Awards was 2016 quite challenging. The competition ran very high in terms of quality and good practice. We had participants from all the frontline sectors in the region; including industry leaders and CSR champions. ENOC's award win in the energy category this year showcases the progress made by energy companies in the UAE and in the Arab region as a whole. It is a testament, to and validates the giant leaps taken by the Energy sector to become responsible, ethical and sustainable. We truly commend ENOC on emerging as a Sustainability advocate par excellence. This win confers on ENOC the added responsibility of continuing to lead by example, not only within its own sector but across sectors as well." said Habiba Al Marashi, President and CEO of the Arabia CSR Network.

The Group has also won several awards in the past including recognitions from the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy for the company's contribution to the 'State of the Energy Report,' an initiative that underlines the focus of the Dubai Government in promoting sustainable development. Another key achievement for ENOC is winning the El-Baz Award for Excellence in Organizational Sustainability for undertaking effective social responsibility initiatives and programmes and driving excellence across different business operations.

In efforts to direct CSR processes and ensure the actual implementation or programs within the Group, ENOC formed a CSR Steering Committee, which played an integral role in the formation of various CSR programmes. The committee works to ensure adherence to polices and guidelines in the CSR process through monitoring alignment with the ENOC mission, vision and core values.

The Arabia CSR Awards 2016 was held under the auspices of The League of Arab States. The programme is the first CSR and sustainability initiative to be recognised by the League and the 2016 event is the third consecutive year that ENOC has been officially involved with the scheme.
