Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Oct 30th, 2016: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) is set to collaborate with the UAE Ministry of Energy's new smart governance system involving thorough reporting of energy and water consumption amongst government stakeholders in the country. Referred to as "Atmata", Arabic for 'automation', the initiative will be the first step in achieving the UAE's goal towards building a diversified and sustainable knowledge economy as outlined in UAE Vision 2021.
Atmata is an electronic system that will standardise data related to ENOC's oil, gas and refining production, as well as electricity and water usage on periodical basis.
Commenting on the initiative, His Excellency Saif Humaid Al Falasi, said: "As we edge closer to the Golden Jubilee of the United Arab Emirates in 2021, we must evolve in a way that connects with our past, tallies with our present ambitions while being judicious to the hopes and dreams of future generations. The UAE Vision 2021 outlines a strategy for the future, and with Atmata, we have a launch pad to track our activities, so that we can meet our targets for the future."
With the UAE targeting a 24 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2021 as per the Paris Agreement at COP21, Atmata will serve as a baseline to measure the country's progress in global trends of mitigating the impact of climate change.
"This is a unique initiative that provides solutions to the UAE's individual state plans, while simultaneously aligning with global initiatives. With this, businesses and stakeholders in the energy sector will be accountable, transparent and responsible about their activities to varied groups including the leadership, the environment and the wider community."
In 2008, ENOC launched a full-fledged internal Energy & Resource Management (E&RM) programme aimed at enhancing the Group's performance in terms of energy and resource consumption.
